Chemical Peels

Chemical peeling is a safe and effective technique for improving signs of aging and sun damage, as well as treating a number of skin conditions. Our practice uses only premium quality products that have little to no downtime. Dr. Garlapati has extensive experience administering chemical peels as well as other cosmetic treatments. He trained in Miami, FL, where he learned from the nation’s top cosmetic dermatologists.

Our Physician Assistant, Heather Upchurch, PA-C, has over 15 years of experience in the use of retinoic acid peels.

Types of chemical peels

We use gentle products, which induce micro peeling of the skin. There is no downtime, and very little, if any, visible flaking

  • Glycolic acid – The most popular of the alpha-hydroxy acids, glycolic acid smooths and refines skin. It is especially beneficial for reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Salicylic acid – This gently cleansing and exfoliating peel helps clear skin oils, unclog pores, and remove blackheads, leaving a healthy and radiant glow. It is especially beneficial for treating acne.
  • Jessner’s peels – With a blend of resorcinol along with lactic and salicylic acids, the Jessner’s peel achieves deep exfoliation for dramatic skin improvement. It is especially beneficial for pigmentation problems such as dark spots, melasma (mask of pregnancy), and pigmentation from acne.
  • Retinoic acid peels – This formula is very mild and refreshing, improving overall skin quality and elasticity. It is especially beneficial for treating skin texture.

What to expect

The chemical peel procedure, when performed by a skilled physician such as Dr. Garlapati, is a comfortable process with reliable results. First, the treatment area is cleansed and prepared. Next, the solution is applied to skin in a thin layer. The length of time it remains on the skin will depend on the type of peel and the intended depth. The chemical peel is neutralized and cleaned from the skin at the optimal time.

A sun protective balm will be applied before you leave the office. It is very important that you wear broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher for at least a week following any kind of chemical peel. Results develop over the next few days and weeks, leaving skin with a radiantly youthful glow and smooth appearance.
